“Between Glances and Whispers" (Secrets Only Maryam’s Heart Knows)
Introduction : Love isn’t supposed to hit this hard… but Maryam clearly missed that memo. One smile from her and suddenly I’m out here writing poetry like a lovesick prince. I went from “angry guy in the park” to “Sultan of Hearts” real quick. All it took was her voice, her blush, and that annoying-but-cute teasing tone she uses. This poem is my heart, my madness, my laughter, and my confusion — all wrapped around her name. So welcome to the story where a simple guy falls for one girl… and loses every bit of his calm to her.
This image captures a quiet moment between Shahzad and Maryam, where love is spoken not through words but through glances, gestures, and shared silence. It reflects the emotional soul of the poem “Between Glances and Whispers” — a love shaped by calm after anger, playful affection, and secrets only Maryam’s heart knows.
Image Context:
The cover image visually represents the emotional atmosphere of “Between Glances and Whispers”. The calm lake symbolizes peace after inner storms, while the quiet interaction between Shahzad and Maryam reflects unspoken understanding, emotional control, and intimacy that needs no explanation. The flowers and gentle posture mirror the poem’s theme of love expressed through presence rather than promises, and whispers felt more than heard.
“Between Glances and Whispers"
(Secrets Only Maryam’s Heart Knows)
Sometimes, Maryam, I sit and think—
Why you pull me close before I blink.
Who are you to me… what spell is this?
Why does my heartbeat rise like this?
I’m a simple guy with a reckless side—
Quiet in crowds, with feelings I hide.
Girls pass by, but they don’t exist…
Only your name sits warm on my wrist.
One life, one soul—still I call you mine—
Like you’re the pulse running down my spine.
How can I be me without you, my life?
How can love cut deeper than a knife?
That day in the park—when anger rose,
Fire in my veins… fists ready to close.
No parent, no brother could calm me then—
I felt like a storm breaking free again.
But you walked in with that teasing tone—
“Why’s my Shahzad red? What have you done?”
You reached for me with your gentle hand—
“Put the bracelet here… I want it all.”
Just a few words—and my rage went weak,
Your smile wiped fury off my cheek.
I laughed so loud—like the sky was mine,
Just ‘cause your hand slipped into mine.
Then at Lake View Park— that quiet place,
You by the water with calm on your face.
I brought you chocolates, flowers, and then—
And with peacock-feather, your favorite pen.
You laughed and said with a playful start—
“Sultan of hearts? indeed You play the part.”
I smiled, “My royal love is all for you—
And maybe my anger is royal too.”
You nudged me gently with soft command—
“Throw that anger into the lake, my man.”
Then your head found home on my shoulder wide,
And your fingers settled warm in mine.
We watched the water… slow and deep,
Talking in whispers meant to keep.
The world felt small… the night felt new—
My whole universe sat next to you.
Maryam, these moments build my heart—
Every glance of yours plays a part.
You’re my love, my pain, my smile, my light—
The reason my soul stays warm at night.
You accepted my love, your heart said yes,
And our connection needs no stress.
But when I ask what’s in your heart, you hide—
You blush, you smile… but you won’t reply.
But even in the quiet, when words are few,
My heart whispers softly, only to you…
It speaks in secrets that no one can see—
Moments of wonder between you and me.
O my beautiful fairy—tell me please,
Did my smile make your heart skip with ease?
Did your cheeks turn pink, a little shy?
Did your heart race when you met my eye?
But no matter what—my heart beats for you,
In every little way… in all that I do.
—Shahzad Sulaiman
Author’s Note (Summary) :
Honestly, Maryam, sometimes I get confused about you, my dear love.
I mean… who are you to me? What are you to me?
Why am I so crazy about you?
Why am I ready to drop everything just for one sweet smile of yours?
Why do I see you everywhere I go?
I’m just a simple guy — sometimes a little reckless too.
I don’t care what people say about me, and I barely talk to anyone because I mostly stay quiet.
So why is it that I stay away from every other girl, don’t even look at them…
but you… you’re different?
Why do you matter the most?
A person has only one life, one soul.
And if mine is inside my body, then how come I call you my “life”?
That day at the park, when I got into a fight with those boys, I was furious — like I could swallow the whole world in one bite.
Even my parents and my brother couldn’t calm me down.
But the moment you came to me and said,
“Okay, tell me, why is my Shahzad’s face looking red like a tomato? What have you done to yourself now? Drop the anger and tell me — did you bring the bracelet you were talking about yesterday?”
Then you held out your hand and said,
“If you brought it, put it on my wrist.”
Just those few words from you were enough to melt my anger in seconds.
I mean, how did you calm the same guy that nobody else could control?
I still remember how I started laughing like I owned the whole world.
And that evening at Lake View Park…
You were sitting on the bench, watching the water of Rawal Lake.
I came to you with flowers, chocolates, and that pen with the peacock feather — because you love writing.
You laughed and said,
“Now I get why you call yourself the Sultan of hearts — there really is royal love in your eyes.”
And I replied,
“This royal love in my eyes is only for you. And if my love is royal, then maybe my anger is royal too.”
You nudged my shoulder and said,
“Here comes the king with his royal anger. Keep your royal anger for others — I only want your royal love. Now take that anger and throw it into this Lake because I don’t want it here.”
Then you rested your head on my shoulder, placed your hand on mine, and we sat there quietly — talking softly, looking at the water, lost in our own little world.
Maryam, maybe you’re wondering what’s gotten into your Shahzad today…
but honestly, it’s these small moments, these half-answered questions, these little memories with you that make up my whole world.
Or let me say it properly — you are my whole world, my love , my pain and my life ,you are my evrything and the reason behind my every little mischief and smile.
You accepted my love too, you admitted the love in your heart, and we both know we understand each other better than anyone else.
We can’t stay away from one another.
But every time I ask you these questions from my heart, you don’t reply.
You just smile quietly, your cheeks turn pink, and you go silent.
And then even I go silent…
but inside, my heart keeps whispering:
“O my beautiful fairy, answer me… Did you smile because of me?
Did you blush because of me?”
Wait did this poem slip straight into your soul?
Then tell me your funniest love moment in the comments.
Maybe your story is even more chaotic than mine — I won’t judge.
And if someone special keeps confusing your heartbeat, share this poem with them… see what happens.
If they blush, that’s your sign.
